Forza, Bravado, Nocturnal, Bourbon Barrel Zinfandel Cabernet, and Three Moons Cabernet Sauvignon. Over the past five years, Winexpert has forged quite a legacy with their annual Eclipse series limited release. Just Fine Wine is excited to announce this year’s premium short-run offering – Fiero – the first one appearing under the new Winexpert Private Reserve banner.

Primitivo is a versatile varietal delivering a range of wine styles, from brash and high in alcohol to elegant and crisp. The Salento style tends to fall in the middle, playing on the fruity nature of the grape and favouring a slightly softer body, striking a flawless balance of ripe fruit, spice, acidity and structure.

Winexpert Private Reserve Fiero is restricted in quantities and available only while supplies last. Ready to bottle in 8-9 weeks and producing approximately 23L of finished wine (roughly thirty 750ml bottles), this surefire winner is priced at $225 (On-Premise) or $170 (Kit-Only). Contact Just Fine Wine to get yours today.

Winexpert Private Reserve Fiero – Salento, Italy

THE REGION: Salento is the heel of Italy, a sun-kissed peninsula at the southern tip of the Puglia wine growing region. It boasts a picturesque coastline, deep blue seas and a rural landscape full of olive groves and vineyards spotted with ancient villages. Grown here for centuries, Primitivo is a flagship grape and a source of pride. The name “Fiero” means “proud” in Italian. The hot and dry climate is tempered by cool breezes from the surrounding seas making for excellent growing conditions.

THE WINE: A lush Primitivo loaded with flavours of dark berries, cherry and plum, with accents of warm baking spice and dried fruit character. Juicy ripe fruit is perfectly balanced with racy acidity and fine-grained tannins for a smooth rounded finish.

FOOD PAIRING: Pair with dishes typical to the region such as Eggplant Parmesan or a rustic style pizza with sausage and onions. A perfect companion for barbeque, bold cheeses, and grilled vegetables.

SWEETNESS: Dry        BODY: Medium-Full        OAK: Medium        ALCOHOL: 14%*

Welcome to Your Next Adventure

As the leaders in the craft winemaking industry, Winexpert continuously searches for ways in which to elevate the experience of their products. Just Fine Wine is excited to announce that Winexpert has completed a complete overhaul and re-branding of their entire wine portfolio, taking it to a whole other level. Winexpert started from the ground up, investing over eight million dollars into upgrades for their facilities in Niagara, Ontario, innovating their process and reformulating their products with new technologies adapted from their parent company, Andrew Peller. In the end they have successfully created even better quality wine. The new wine kits require less heat treatment (pasteurizationwhich means better colour, better aroma, and better flavour.

Simply, it means better wine.

Winexpert has also redesigned their catalogue with a fresh new look and easy-to-shop assortment that offers wine for all tastes and for every occasion. All this change did come with the loss of a handful of old wines but has also included the addition of some fantastic new styles. The earley stages of this transition has experienced some hiccups with the stocking out of the old product coupled with some arrival delays with the new wine kits. The worst of that should be behind us now; however, for a small handful of varietals we will see a mix of old and new format craft winemaking kits for a short while longer. The really great news is the finished wines are unanimously living up to the hype from Winexpert’s blind taste test focus groups to fellow winemaking shops across the country to Just Fine Wine’s own taste testing. We can’t wait to share these new and improved wines with you – backed by our 100% satisfaction guarantee as always.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Why is Winexpert doing this?
Winexpert has always been the industry leader in craft winemaking. The past twenty or more years has seen several tweaks and changes to their wine kits and winemaking process in order to continue to provide you with the very best product available on the market. This is the next step in their evolution. Creating even better quality wines as well as streamlining the portfolio to resonate with both our loyal clients and the next generation of craft winemakers.
2. Why is the kit smaller? How is a smaller kit an improvement?
Winexpert wanted to improve the quality of their already superior wines, so they started from the very beginning. Through advancements in formulations, innovation and technology it allowed them to develop a improved product in a smaller format. The smaller format wine kit has a higher brix (sugar content) which results in a more stable product. A more stable product allows for less pasteurization time which results in improved colour, aromatics and taste – all of which adds up to better wine! This new format is manufacturer, retailer, consumer and environmentally (less packaging) friendly.
3. Why have so many wines been deleted, and brands altered?
Many customers, both old and new, view our industry as cluttered and confusing. Winexpert’s new consumer-friendly portfolio contains tiers under the master brand of Winexpert, that easily explain the different levels of wine kit we offer. To achieve this, less popular and under-performing wine styles have been eliminated and some changes have been made to reduce redundancy – offering the best selling styles at tiers where they are best suited. While some clients will no doubt be disappointed to see their favourite wines discontinued, we have alternative suggestions for you to try backed by our trusted 100% satisfaction guarantee. These changes will also allow Winexpert more flexibility to offer more exciting limited release products throughout the year.

Has your favourite wine been discontinued? Click on the images below for .pdf charts with suggested alternatives or contact us and we can help:

4. When will the new products be available?
New Winexpert products have already been available (and bottled) at Just Fine Wine (The new limited release Island Mists as well as this year’s Italian Pink Pinot Grigio). The rest of the portfolio is scheduled to transition at the beginning of April. New products will be available when the old products stock out at Winexpert’s warehouse. There will a transition period where we will have a combination of old and new style products.
5. Are prices going up with these changes?
One of the goals during this project was to maintain current pricing as closely as possible while improving the quality at every level. We feel the change in pricing has been fairly balanced as you will find wines that have gone up some, a number that have stayed the same or very close to it, and many that have even decreased in price.

Yes Way Rosé! Italian Pink Pinot Grigio Returns!

January 24, 2019

Just Fine Wine is excited to announce the return of the tremendously popular limited release rosé: Winexpert Reserve Italian Pink Pinot Grigio.

It’s back! Just Fine Wine is happy to inform you that due to extremely popular demand Winexpert Reserve Italian Pink Pinot Grigio is set to return this March. Perfect for Spring and Summer sipping, this Pinot Grigio will have you TICKLED PINK. Off-dry, crisp and light-bodied with a pale salmon pink hue, this wine presents light apple, pear, floral and tropical fruit aromas that accompany delightful strawberry and rhubarb flavours. Only a limited quantity of this wine will be produced and it doesn’t last long. Reserve yours at Just Fine Wine to ensure availability because once it’s gone, it’s gone.

Each Spring, Winexpert releases a “short run” rosé and the demand for these wines has been steadily increasing as wine lovers discover the quality and versatility of blushes. This fact coupled with the incredible popularity of Pinot Grigio means this wine sells out quickly. Demand for Italian Pink Pinot Grigio is exceptional and over the past two years has proven itself to be our most popular limited release blush ever. Don’t miss out – reserve your batch(es) today! SELECTION Italian Pink Pinot Grigio will be available at Just Fine Wine beginning March 4th, 2020 for a limited time only. Ready in only 6-8 weeks and producing 23L (approximately thirty 750ml bottles) of finished wine, Winexpert Reserve Italian Pink Pinot Grigio is priced at $185 On-Premise or $130 Kit-Only.

The Style: Rosé wine has begun to come into its own in recent years and has become a serious style of wine unto itself. Rosés most often offer a lighter, brighter, sunnier take on your favourite red-wine grapes. Like the California Sauvignon Blanc Rosé offered in 2016 & 2017, Pink Pinot Grigio is based on a grape that is most often associated with white wine! Either way, rosés aren’t just for novice wine drinkers. Today’s rosés will please the palate of even the most discerning wine aficionado. Lip-smacking fruit and mouth-watering acidity, lightly chilled rosé wines are versatile and food-friendly.

The Region: Italy

The Wine: Off-dry, crisp and refreshingly light-bodied (which is typical with most Pinot Grigios). A pale, salmon-pink hued wine that presents light apple, pear, floral and tropical fruit aromas that accompany delightful strawberry and rhubarb flavours. A perfect sipping wine and is versatile at the dining table, as is the case with most blush wines.

BODY: LIGHT-MEDIUM   ALCOHOL: 12%   SWEETNESS: OFF-DRY

Food Pairing: Rosé really does go with (almost) everything. Winexpert Reserve Italian Pink Pinot Grigio has some residual sweetness making it a perfect partner for spicier fare. It’s also a great match for light salads, shellfish and other seafood, goat’s cheeses, chicken, and pork.

Sip, smile, repeat. The rising trend of Moscato continues around the world and we are delighted to announce that Winexpert Classic California Pink Moscato will be back for another year.

Featuring the same fresh flavours of strawberry, raspberry and cherry that you loved in years past. Winexpert Classic California Pink Moscato is light and refreshing on the palate making it great on its own or the perfect complement to fresh fruit kabobs, spicy BBQ dishes, Chinese takeout and sweet desserts.

Not familiar with Moscato? This wine is typically sweet, lower in alcohol than most other varietals, and can be found in sparkling, still, and dessert styles. It is made from the grapes of the Muscat family, which includes over 200 varieties and can be grown anywhere and everywhere around the world. Having a lower alcohol content and a refreshing flavour profile make Moscato more than just a dessert wine. In recent years Moscato has experienced incredible growth in popularity and has been the fastest growing wine style commercially. Moscato has proven to cut across all sorts of demographic lines and is especially popular among younger consumers. This is partly due to the wine carving a real niche within popular culture – particularly within the Hip Hop music scene where it has been referred to or endorsed by such musical acts such as Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Lil’ Kim, Drake, Waka Flocka Flame and DJ Khaled. In addition, Real Housewife of Atlanta NeNe Leakes developed her own “Miss Moscato” line. Mixed with vodka, Moscato has also become a nightlife staple in clubs and hot spots around the globe.

Perfect for Summer (and any time for that matter), Winexpert Classic California Pink Moscato is a 6 week kit that produces 23L (approximately thirty 750ml bottles) of finished wine and is priced at $140 On-Premise or $85 Kit-Only. Available now but for a limited time only at Just Fine Wine. See what all the fuss is about, get yours today before they’re gone!

NOW AVAILABLE: LE19 Terremoto Tempranillo – Spain

REGION: VALENCIA, SPAIN ~ Valencia, a sunny region located in the heart of Spain’s east coast, is where one can find the Tempranillo grape. The Mediterranean climate of mild winters and very warm summers, combined with the gently sloping vineyards and permeable subsoils, creates the perfect growing conditions for this savoury grape. Valencia is also home to the famous annual Las Fallas festival which welcomes the arrival of spring with fireworks, pyrotechnics and colourful, giant paper-maché figures. Every day during the festival at 2pm, the city is filled with the sound of firecrackers, ultimately ending in the extraordinary finale called the Terremoto!

WINE: The Tempranillo grape’s thick skin gives the wine a deep ruby colour and moderate tannins. Medium-bodied and savoury, Terremoto Tempranillo has flavours of cherry, dried fig and cedar, with hints of leather and spices. Whether you’re celebrating a big occasion like your 30th anniversary, complete with fireworks, or just toasting the end of a workday, this wine is the perfect accompaniment. NOW AVAILABLE: Pecorino Pinot Grigio – Italy

REGION: ABRUZZO & VENETO, ITALY ~ The Pecorino grapes are sourced from Abruzzo, Italy which is a mountainous region located along the Adriatic Sea. It is also home to the highest point on mainland Italy, Corno Grande. Veneto is located in northeast Italy and is the source region for the Pinot Grigio. The Influence of the nearby Alps provides a cooler microclimate where fresh, crisp white wines flourish.

WINE: Pinot Grigio was originally established as Pinot Gris in Burgundy and although most famous in Alsace, France, made its way to Switzerland in the 1300s and eventually to Northern Italy where Pinot Grigio was born. Today it is Italy’s most popular grape. Pecorino has a bit of a different history; thought to be extinct in the mid 20th century, it was rediscovered in the 1980s by a local producer who then took cuttings and propagated them resulting in this grape’s resurgence. Blending Pinot Grigio, the most popular Italian white wine grape, with the lesser known Pecorino grape results in a delicate white wine with high acidity, lemon, lime, and honeysuckle flavours, and an elegant floral aroma. Pair with steamed mussels, seafood risotto, and vegetarian spring rolls.

Pair with braised meats, chorizo sausage or roasted eggplant.

Available January 2020: Pecorino Pinot Grigio – Italy

Available February 2020: Pacific Quartet Red – Pacific Rim

REGION: PASO ROBLES, CALIFORNIA, USA / MAULE VALLEY, CHILE / RIVERLAND, AUSTRALIA / YAKIMA, WASHINGTON, USA ~ The Pacific Rim, encompassed by North and South America on one side and Australia on the other, has microclimates that match those from all over the world. From blazing sunshine to crisp mountain air, and with soils ranging from sandy loam to stony red clay to nearly pure limestone and everything in between, the range and variety provide the perfect terroir for almost any grape, especially those found in this charismatic red blend.

WINE: For our 30th anniversary, we’ve decided to put a spin on one of Winexpert’s most popular Limited Releases ever, introducing Pacific Quartet Red! We’ve selected the most revered red varietals from the same regions that are featured in Pacific Quartet. Blending California Cab, Chilean Malbec, Australian Shiraz and Washington Merlot and created the most delectable, full bodied wine. The combination results in a well structured, tannic wine with a bouquet of blackberry and cherry. The palate offers rich berry overtones with hints of currant and dark chocolate and a toasty oak finish. Pair with rich meat and bean stews, roasted leg of lamb with rosemary, or aged cheddar.

Available March 2020: YOLO White – California, USA

REGION: YOLO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, USA ~ YOLO is commonly known as an acronym for ‘You Only Live Once’; however, the origin of the name Yolo County is believed to come from Native American descent. This county is situated at the northernmost region within the Central Valley in California. Because of the deep and fertile soils found here, Yolo County is largely known for its agriculture, mainly its tomato production. The marine effects from the nearby Sacramento River provide cooler temperatures and the fog that rolls in and out of the vineyards daily, combined with the coastal winds, makes for ideal grape growing conditions. The climate contributes to the concentration of aromatic compounds found in the wines produced in this region.

WINE: Fruit-forward and slightly off-dry, the palate on this wine is inviting and well-balanced. The Chardonnay contributes vibrant green apple and melon flavours. The floral aromatics come from the Muscat, and the Chenin Blanc completes the wine with citrus flavours and high acidity. Pair with mild curry dishes, baked ham, Brie and Camembert cheese.

LE19 PAIRING:  Salmon with Citrus Tarragon Butter. CLICK HERE for Recipe.

SWEETNESS: Off-Dry   ||   BODY: Medium   ||   OAK: None   ||   ALCOHOL: 13%*

PRICE: $193.00 On-Premise | $138.00 Kit-Only

Available April 2020: Cape Blend with Grape Skins – South Africa

REGION: WORCESTER, SOUTH AFRICA ~ The Worcester region in South Africa is located approximately 100kms from Cape Town, in the Breede River Valley. It is surrounded by majestic mountain ranges and the Breede River runs though the valley on its way to the Indian Ocean. The hot climate and the protection provided by the mountains combine to provide perfect conditions for high-quality, fruitful wines.

WINE: This exciting combination of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, and Grenache creates a wine that is truly outstanding and worthy of being a part of the 30th anniversary of LE! The dark berry flavours from the Cabernet Sauvignon balance nicely with the forward spiciness from the Shiraz. Pinotage, which is a grape varietal that is unique to South Africa, provides strong tannins and smoky, earthy characteristics while the Grenache contributes aromas of leather and licorice. Together, these elements offer a complex, full bodied wine that pairs well with roasted meats seasoned with marinades or savoury herbs and aged hard cheeses.

What is LE?

Each year Winexpert produces a limited quantity of five fabulous and unique varieties from around the world that are released monthly from December through April. LE – or Limited Edition – wines vary year to year and can be one or a combination of the following: unique blends, hot industry trends, highly sought after regions and vineyards; and scarce or hard to obtain grapes/juice. One thing remains from one year to the next, LE collections always produce wine of superior quality.

LE vintages are available only during the month of their release. They are limited in supply and are so immensely popular that they can be acquired by pre-order only. The LE program has built a reputation of delivering exceptional, award-winning wines year after year after year. This speaks to the high quality wines that these very special wine kits produce and that’s why LE continues to be the biggest most successful limited release brand. Each and every year, LE wines are awarded medals at the WineMaker International Amateur Wine Competition; a testament to the superior quality of our LE program. We’re confident the 30th anniversary collection of LE19 will continue the award-winning tradition; so be sure to make your wine cellar an award-winning one. Reserve Your Spot at the LE19 Wine Tasting

August 15, 2019

Join us at Just Fine Wine’s LE19 Wine Tasting, an informative and entertaining afternoon celebrating amazing wine & food.

What is LE19?

Every year, Winexpert produces a limited number of exclusive 8-week wine kits. There are three reds and two whites to choose from and the the varietals /styles change from year to year. These wine kits are released on a monthly basis beginning in January.  Beyond limited availability, there are a number of other factors that make these wines so exceptional: they can range from unique blends to hot industry trends to rare, hard to obtain and sought after varietals and regions. The main thing to note is that these spectacular wines are produced in limited quantity and are available by pre-order only. Details about the LE19 collection will be forthcoming in September.

What is Just Fine Wine’s LE19 Wine Tasting?

A challenge with LE wines is that they have to be pre-ordered before they are produced – so how are we to know what the wines will taste like? You can find out for yourself at Just Fine Wine’s LE19 Wine Tasting, taking place 3pm to 5pm on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the KINSMEN HALL in Port Coquitlam (PLEASE NOTE: NEW LOCATION THIS YEAR). Using ‘commercial equivalents’ (wines recommended by Winexpert and purchased from a licensed BCLDB retailer), you can get an exclusive sneak preview of the LE19’s, months before they hit the shelves. These liquor store comparables are carefully selected to to give you a strong overall impression of what your Winexpert LE19’s will taste like, in advance of their production. Past attendees will attest that as good as some of this commercial wine is, the wine you will craft with us is always better…and, in most cases, far cheaper!

Just Fine Wine’s LE19 Wine Tasting is an entertaining afternoon spent in the company of fellow wine enthusiasts. It’s casual, comfortable, enjoyable, and most certainly not “hoity toity”.  In addition to enjoying tasty wines, you also get to sample professionally prepared food pairings that are tailored specifically for each of the LE19 wines. You can experience firsthand how great wines can be taken to an even higher level when complimented with just the right food pairing.

Who is Tim Ellison?

Just Fine Wine has been putting on this annual event for the better part of twenty years. We’ve had the good fortune to have secured some incredibly knowledgeable moderators over that time but after he hosted our event for the first time seven years ago, it’s been a no-brainer to bring Tim Ellison back every year since. When it comes to the world of food and wine, he is infinitely informative and equally entertaining. After each Wine Tasting event we receive overwhelmingly positive feedback and constant demand for his return. We agree, so we keep bringing him back! Just Fine Wine couldn’t be happier to announce that the incomparable Tim Ellison will once again be at the helm, hosting this year’s LE19 Wine Tasting for the eighth year in a row.

Director of Operations at the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts, Tim has amassed a laundry list of accolades and accomplishments including but not limited to: a Diploma of Hospitality Administration from BCIT, Chef de Cuisine certification by the Canadian Culinary Institute, and dual Diplomas as a Sommelier by both the International Sommelier Guild (ISG) and the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET).  The WSET organization has also awarded Tim with the Level 3 Assessor status, allowing him to instruct their wine education classes. He is presently enrolled in the bachelor’s degree program in Hospitality Administration at VCC. Most importantly, he’s hugely entertaining and makes learning about wine an extremely enjoyable experience!

Enjoy good food, great wine, and excellent company in a fun and casual atmosphere. It’s a great afternoon you’ll want to be a part of.

A fantastic deal for only $15 person. Reserve your spot on the guest list today by contacting Just Fine Wine.

Classic Character & Pacific Perfection

June 9, 2019

With great excitement Just Fine Wine and Winexpert present to you two Limited Release wines: Selection Whisky Barrel Cabernet Merlot and Selection Pacifica White.

With great excitement Just Fine Wine and Winexpert present to you two Limited Release wines: Selection Whisky Barrel Cabernet Merlot and Selection Pacifica White.

Comprised of four varietals sourced from around the Pacific Rim, Selection Pacifica White returns after debuting nearly a decade ago as part of the 2010 Limited Edition series. With noticeable acidity and excellent structure, this wine features flavours of peach, honeysuckle, apple-pear and tropical fruit. Fans of Pacific Quartet, this one is right up your alley.

On the heels of last year’s successful Bourbon Barrel Zinfandel Cabernet comes Selection Whisky Barrel Cabernet Merlot. The Merlot comes to us from California and we couldn’t be happier to announce that the Cabernet Sauvignon in this classic blend has been harvested from our own backyard in the Okanagan. The wine boasts ripe berry fruit flavours with structured tannins and high acidity. A blend of peated and unpeated oak chips from genuine Whisky barrels adds nuances of vanilla, tobacco and spice. If you are a fan of the current trend of whisky barrel aged wine, in particular Wayne Gretzky No.99 Whisky Oak Aged Red, this wine is for you.

Selection Pacifica White & Selection Whisky Barrel Cabernet Merlot are available in limited quantities. The Cab Merlot, in particular, is extremely short on supply – so much so that we only have a handful left available following our pre-order period. Act now or miss out – contact Just Fine Wine to secure your batch(es) today! Selection Pacifica White & Slection Whisky Barrel Cabernet Merlot will be available at Just Fine Wine beginning June 19th, 2019 and only only while quantities last. Ready in only 6-8 weeks and producing 23L (approximately thirty 750ml bottles) of finished wine, both wines are priced at $190 On-Premise or $135 Kit-Only.

Our SELECTION: Pacifica White

THE REGION: This unique blend has been sourced from the best of the Pacific Rim wine growing regions. Australia’s warm climate produces Semillon of outstanding character. The cooler climate of Chile makes a smooth and well-rounded Chardonnay, while the similar temperatures in New Zealand achieve an explosive, intense Sauvignon Blanc. The Viognier is sourced from the US Pacific Northwest where the marine influences contribute to the perfect growing conditions for this grape.

THE WINE: Staying true to our last release of Pacifica White in 2010, this wine showcases bright fruit and excellent structure. The Viognier offers flavours of peach and honeysuckle. The Semillon lends aromas of vanilla and butterscotch, while the Chilean Chardonnay adds more tropical fruit and apple-pear flavours. Finally, the Sauvignon Blanc adds the noticeable acidity in addition to the essence of passion fruit and gooseberry.

THE STYLE: FULL-BODIED WHITE   BODY: FULL   OAK: NONE   SWEETNESS: OFF-DRY   ALCOHOL: 11.5%*

THE FOOD PAIRING: Try it with a spring Pad Thai with green garlic, asparagus and peas or spaghetti with prawns, chili peppers and garlic.

OUR SELECTION: Whisky Barrel Cabernet Merlot

THE REGION: The Okanagan Valley in British Columbia has a terroir that is affected by the deep Okanagan Lake and the surrounding mountains. The moderately cold but short winters and the hot summer temperatures allow for the production of an exceptionally well-balanced Cabernet Sauvignon. Paso Robles, located on the Central Coast of California, enjoys a long growing season and a healthy harvest which is the perfect condition for growing high quality Merlot.

THE WINE: The easygoing California Merlot is the perfect partner to the full-bodied BC Cabernet Sauvignon in this delectably versatile blend. The ripe berry fruit flavours, the structured tannins and the high acidity combine to create a wine that truly shines. The addition of peated and unpeated oak chips from genuine Whisky barrels adds nuances of vanilla, tobacco and spice.

THE STYLE: FULL-BODIED RED   BODY: FULL   OAK: WHISKY BARREL   SWEETNESS: DRY   ALCOHOL: 13%*

THE FOOD PAIRING: This wine’s versatility makes it a match for a variety of dishes! Keep it simple with pepperoni pizza or be creative and pair it with a rich, roasted leg of lamb with rosemary and garlic.
