For over a decade, Winexpert has dazzled wine lovers with an annual Limited Release in the Private Reserve Series. The lineage of these ultra-premium wines is ultra-impressive: Alias, Colosso, Infusion, Bruno, Odyssey, Fiero, Three Moons Cabernet, Bourbon Barrel Zin Cab, Nocturnal, Bravado, and Forza. It is truly a tradition of greatness but, unfortunately, they only come in limited quantities. Only once has Winexpert brought back one of these magnificent creations (Forza which made its initial appearance in 2015 and returned in 2018). This year sees Winexpert listening to popular demand and bringing back one of the most asked about wines in this series: Winexpert Private Reserve INFUSION with Grape Skins, an ultra-premium red blend sourced from class vineyards in Lodi, California.

CALIFORNIA SPECIALTY STEEPED IN WHISKY OAK.

INFUSION combines California’s two favourite red varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon & Zinfandel) an increasingly popular varietal in the state (Syrah). Combined, the three make a bold wine with an abundance of rich red and dark berry flavours, and seriously rich tannin. But it’s the story behind the name INFUSION that really makes this wine unique.

Juice for this limited release was pre-oaked in-house, steeping for several months with Niagara sourced whisky oak chips. This pre-oaking adds roundness to the body, elevates tannin, and infuses the juice with nuanced sweet spice and vanilla character, making this wine a truly great.

The Region: Lodi, California, USA. Cab Syrah (Shiraz) blends are common, but the addition of Zinfandel is a golden state creation. These popular varietals thrive in Lodi, which tends to grow softer, more fruit-forward reds. Cab brings its signature black currant flavours, ample acid and tannin. Zinfandel adds jammy berries, with Syrah contributing plum and pepper. Together they make a bold wine with abundant berry flavours and rich tannin, making it an ideal base for something a little extra.

The Wine: Being steeped in whisky oak* is that little extra we just mentioned. Juice for this limited release was pre-oaked in-house, steeping for several months with Niagara whisky oak chips. During this 6-month steep, the juice absorbs flavours and tannin from the whisky oak, adding roundness to the body, elevating tannin, and infusing it with nuanced sweet spice, brown sugar, and vanilla character. These whisky-influenced sweet notes round out a bold wine rich with flavours of blackcurrant, jammy wildberry and plum, underlaid with mocha, spice, and smoky toasted notes.

Food Pairing: Try aged cheeses, chicken mole, or bison burgers topped with roasted red pepper and caramelized onions. A great option for beef brisket, spicy sausage, or black bean chili.

This product is steeped with whisky oak chips prior to being added to the craft winemaking kit, allowing the juice to absorb flavour from the wood over the course of several months, enhancing its profile. Though this product does contain oak chips and cubes, no whisky oak is included inside the kit.
