The LE23 Collection:

December 2023: Bobal Cabernet Sauvignon – Valencia, Spain

THE WINE: This Spanish red combines Bobal and Cabernet Sauvignon to deliver a medium-bodied wine with a fruity palate and silky tannin. Aromas of black fruit, mild spice, and subtle toasty oak. The first sip shows bright flavours of plum, cassis, and cherry joined by notes of licorice, cocoa, oak, and earthy nuances. Fresh acidity, soft tannin, and a light spicy sensation complete this polished blend.

THE REGION: Bobal is indigenous to Spain, where it is the 2nd most planted red wine grape. Its thick skin and drought resistance make it well suited to the subtropical Mediterranean climate of hot, dry summers. It is mostly found in Valencia on Spain’s sunny east coast. The region is cooled slightly by sea breezes, and grapes are often grown in altitudes up to 1100 meters above sea level. Bordeaux varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon also perform well here and are often blended with indigenous Spanish grapes.

January 2024: Winemaker’s Blend – Italy

THE WINE: The varietals in our Winemaker’s Blend play off each other to create a crisp off-dry wine with a tapestry of vibrant fruit flavours. Pinot Grigio leads with lush peach and apple flavours. Riesling adds aromatics, a shot of sweetness, and amplifies fresh acidity. Vermentino plays up the citrus character, while Verduzzo brings tropical notes to the background. A touch of Trebbiano rounds out the orchard fruit flavours and adds a fresh mineral accent.

THE REGION: This cunning blend pulls choice varietals from the four corners of Italy, showcasing the best the country has to offer: Sicily in the southwest, where climate and geography make near perfect growing conditions; Tuscany on the northwest coast, one of the world’s most famous wine regions; Veneto on the northeast coast where hot summers are tempered by the Adriatic Sea, and finally Puglia on the southeast coast, where the surrounding seas provide balance to the dry heat helping grow mature and fruity grapes.

February 2024: Nebbiolo – Lodi, California, USA

THE WINE: The regal Italian red you know and love with a bit of laid-back California charm. Nebbiolo maintains its strong tannin on North American soil but reins in some boldness, showing more voluptuous fruit and floral undertones. Aromas hint at rose and violet with notes of earth and spice. Cherry and raspberry flavours are forefront, while licorice, plum and chalky earth notes add depth. A gratifying wine with strong structure and balance thanks to Nebbiolo’s characteristic high tannin and acidity.

THE REGION: Nebbiolo does well in Lodi, situated in the middle of California’s Central Valley. The Mediterranean climate is tempered in part by cool breezes blowing inland from the San Francisco Bay area, which promotes the grape’s natural acidity. Two mountain-fed rivers run through the region bringing rich granite-based minerals to the soil, lending complex flavours. These mineral rich sandy soils, in conjunction with the dry growing season, encourage more concentrated flavours.

March 2024: Semillon Sauvignon Blanc – Provence, France

THE WINE: This White Bordeaux style wine is a classic French blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Citrus and grassy aromas lead to a gorgeous palate with refreshing grapefruit and lemon/lime flavours. Gooseberry, passionfruit, and green apple notes come through, hinting at honeysuckle and lemon peel. Serve lightly chilled to emphasize the vibrant acidity and prominent citrus flavours of this crisp dry white.

THE REGION: Provence lies on the southeast tip of France and vineyards in this small coastal region are all within 60kms of the Mediterranean Sea. Summers are warm with abundant sunshine. Coastal breezes help moderate the temperature and the strong mistral wind keeps skies clear and grapes dry, protecting against disease. Soils vary across the region with white wine grapes generally planted in areas with rich limestone and shale deposits.

April 2024: Tempranillo Shiraz with Grape Skins – Riverland, Australia

THE WINE: Tempranillo and Shiraz are exceptional blending partners creating a poignant blend abound with rich fruit and spice. Aromas of red berry, chocolate, and peppery spice set the tone for a palate packed with flavours of black cherry, raspberry, blueberry, and plum. Ripe tannin and rich spice lend to the lush mouthfeel, while layered notes of milk chocolate play off savoury elements of tobacco and licorice. A blockbuster example of how these two flavourful grapes amplify each other.

THE REGION: Australia has long been a powerhouse of Shiraz, but it’s only recently that Tempranillo plantings have surged in the country. In the Riverland, the warm Mediterranean climate and long sunny days bring out more of Tempranillo’s generous black fruit flavours and spice character. The Murray Darling River winds through the region providing relief from the hot South Australian sun, vital access to water for irrigation, and contributes to the region’s fertile soils.

Cabernet Franc Icewine Style

Sweet and rich in texture, with pink and salmon tones, this wine is inviting with its irresistible aromas and flavors of jammy raspberry, strawberry, and rhubarb. Spice accents to the palate are persistent to the elegant and velvety finish. Excellent with rich chocolate desserts like a decadent chocolate triple fudge cake.

Chocolate Raspberry Dessert Wine

Bursting with rich, intense flavours and aromas. The traditional dessert wine character of warm, rounded cherries and plums is supported by a racy zing of bright raspberry. The Region: Coombsville, Napa Valley, California – Napa Valley is the crown jewel of California winemaking and a true titan of Cabernet Sauvignon. With an ideal climate and rich soils, the lush valley offers near perfect growing conditions, and is indisputably one of the best places for Cabernet Sauvignon. The tiny region offers a rich selection of iconic and trophy wines that are highly sought after by collectors and consumers. Coombsville, a sub AVA (American Viticultural Area) of the Napa Valley, received its designation in 2011 and is regarded as the future of Napa Cabernet. It is distinguished from other AVAs by its slightly cooler climate and its mix of soils which include mineral-rich volcanic ash and well-draining river rock. The cooler conditions slow ripening, allowing the grapes more hang time and letting flavours develop. Coombsville Cab also produces smaller berries, giving a greater flavour concentration and producing extremely smooth, rich, and polished tannins. Coombsville wines are noted for their typically softer but still significant tannin, which provide excellent structure and mouthfeel, along with underlying layers of earth and mineral flavours.

The Wine: Dark and savoury, showing impressive depth of character. Earthy sage and black fruit aromas. Food Pairings: Big and bold with loads of black fruit flavours, this is best matched with equally big, rich flavours, or foods high in fat and umami flavours. Points of Interest

• Winexpert Revelation will only be released in extremely “small lots”. Less than 2000 kits were produced this year for all Winexpert Retailers around the world.
• Available on a first come, first served basis. Last year we were lucky to secure ten. Once the wine is gone, it’s gone and there will be no more available to us this year.
• There will only ever be one single wine in the Revelation brand: a Napa area Cabernet Sauvignon (or variation/blend thereof). Every year will offer a unique new version.
• At the liquor store, Napa Valley Cab Sauvs often sell for $40-$50 a bottle, with high end wines frequently selling upwards of $100 per bottle.
• Each year will be a new, distinct vintage of the wine impacted by weather, growing conditions, handling, formulation, etc. – making Revelation unique and setting it apart from the majority of Winexpert wine kits.
• A minimum of 6 months bottle aging is recommended, with a sweet spot of between 12 and 18 months from bottling for drinking. Winexpert has been running post-bottle shelf life trials at 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, and 24 months in order to conduct tastings at regular intervals to determine optimal aging, which may influence aging recommendations for Revelation going forward.
• The juice used in this incarnation of Revelation is from Napa’s 2022 harvest. For us to make the best wine possible, it is ideal for Winexpert’s winemakers to be able to formulate and ferment using the actual juice that will go into the final kit. As this can take several months, the juice is sourced in advance of the release and put in cold storage while winemakers and the product development team use a portion of the juice to do their fermentation trials.
• Produces “half batches” of 11.5L or approximately fifteen 750ml bottles of finished wine.
• Utilizes ingenuitive new technique of oak spheres.
• Barrel aging likely will not be offered – due to the scarcity of the product available.

Inspiration & Innovation

Winexpert wanted to develop a new super premium wine – something that went above & beyond and challenged the current best. Concept & Creation

This was a different proposition. And so, Winexpert Revelation was born – a new brand that will consist of this single iconic wine. The memorable, impactful name serves not just as the brand name but the name of the wine itself, and the distinct look and premium bottle label reinforce the quality level of the wine. Revelation is defined as a surprising fact or event that makes you look at things in a new way. A pleasant often enlightening surprise. Something revealed, especially a striking disclosure, as if something not before realized. This speaks to the super premium nature of the product – we’re revealing a new craft winemaking kit whose quality surpasses even that of our top tier ultra premium Private Reserve brand. Revelation is an elevated spin on craft winemaking, an ingenious evolution that opens the eyes of consumers and craft winemakers not only to a new higher caliber wine, but one that does so without grape skins. INFUSION combines California’s two favourite red varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon & Zinfandel, with Syrah, an increasingly popular varietal in the state. Combined, the three make a bold wine with an abundance of rich red and dark berry flavours, and serious tannin. But it’s the story behind the name INFUSION that really makes this wine unique.

In a Winexpert first, juice for this limited release was pre-oaked in-house, steeping for several months with whisky oak chips specially sourced from Wayne Gretzky Estates Winery and Distillery. This pre-oaking adds roundness to the body, elevates tannin, and infuses the juice with nuanced sweet spice and vanilla character, making this wine a truly “great one”.

The Region: Lodi, California, USA. Cab Syrah (Shiraz) blends are common, but the addition of Zinfandel is a golden state creation. These popular varietals thrive in Lodi, which tends to grow softer, more fruit-forward reds. Cab brings its signature black currant flavours, ample acid and tannin. Zinfandel adds jammy berries, with Syrah contributing plum and pepper. Together they make a bold wine with abundant berry flavours and rich tannin, making it an ideal base for something a little extra.

The Wine: Being steeped in whisky oak* is that little extra we just mentioned. In a Winexpert first, juice for this limited release was pre-oaked in-house, steeping for several months with whisky oak chips specially sourced from Wayne Gretzky Estates Winery and Distillery. During this 6-month steep, the juice absorbs flavours and tannin from the whisky oak, adding roundness to the body, elevating tannin, and infusing it with nuanced sweet spice, brown sugar and vanilla character. These whisky-influenced sweet notes round out a bold wine rich with flavours of blackcurrant, jammy wildberry and plum, underlaid with mocha, spice, and smoky toasted notes.

Winexpert Twisted Mist Malibu Sunset: While the history of this cocktail is unclear, it was likely invented in the early 1980’s with the launch of coconut rum as a spinoff of the popular Tequila Sunrise drink. The Region: Southern Australia’s picturesque wine region is located east of the Barossa Valley and extends for over 300km along the Murray River. This long-established region has more Chardonnay plantings than all the Southern wine growing regions combined in Australia. Chardonnay from this region is vibrant with ripe flavours and oak is often used to support the richness of the wines and add further complexity. Riverland’s continental climate, flat terrain and long hours of sunshine mean the vines receive consistent, quality sunlight, greatly reducing their chance of disease and ensuring fully ripe, flavourful fruit.

The Wine: Diving into the iconic white wines of Australia, this blend of Chardonnay and Semillon has been taken a step further with the addition of bourbon oak. December 2022: Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot – Walla Walla, Washington, USA

THE WINE: A classic combination. Robust Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and black fruit flavours while complementary Merlot softens Cab’s high tannin and acidity and adds juicy fruit and texture. The result is a beautiful blend showing aromas of black currant with hints of dried herb and toasted almond. The palate is stacked with layers of deep cherry, black fruit, baking spice and mocha. A concentrated and seamless blend with silky tannin.

THE REGION: Walla Walla sits on Washington’s southern border, dipping slightly into Oregon. Cab and Merlot are widely planted here, where the long growing season allows these grapes to reach optimal ripeness. Hot days develop ripe fruit flavours while cool nights help lock in acidity, keeping fruit in focus. Cab grown here is known for being fruitier and less astringent and the Merlot shows a more boisterous body and rich fruitiness.

January 2023: Viognier Roussanne Marsanne – Northern Rhône & Savoie, France

THE WINE: A beautiful blend composed of the only three white wine grapes permitted to be grown in the Northern Rhone. It draws you in with inviting aromas of stone fruit, honeysuckle, and soft herbal notes.  The palate is rich with expressive peach, apricot, and Meyer lemon flavours, just hinting at honeysuckle and brioche. This textured wine leans to the fuller side, but stays smooth and fresh with elegant balance.

THE REGION: The small and prestigious Northern Rhône region experiences a cooler climate than its southern counterpart, due to the mistral wind that brings in colder air. The tiny region of Savoie sits to the west bordering Switzerland and is the only alpine wine region in France. Vineyards are often planted at elevations between250-550 metres but have a uniquely warm microclimate thanks to the southern sun exposure.

February 2023: Malbec Bonarda Syrah with Grape Skins – Mendoza, Argentina

THE WINE: Malbec leads the way providing structure and black fruit. Bonarda builds on juicy fruit flavours and softens tannin, while Syrah lends savoury spice character. This exciting blend shows black cherry and raspberry aromas infused with subtle clove spice, leading to an expressive palate of bright red fruit and ripe dark berry, backed by soft spice, vanilla and dark chocolate notes. THE REGION: Sitting at the foot of the Andes and an average of 900metresabove sea level, Mendoza boasts some of the highest vineyards in the world. April 2023: Aglianico Barbera with Grape Skins – Campania, Italy

THE WINE: Aglianico is considered one of the three greatest Italian varietals, known to produce refined, complex wines with firm tannin. Its richness and structure make it popular for blending. In contrast, Barbera is popular for producing fruity wines with low tannin and high acidity. The combination of these two Italian varietals creates a balanced blend with big personality. Dominant flavours of black cherry, pepper spice, blackberry and plum are enhanced with licorice, dried herbs, and a light mineral note. This is a wine to sit back, sip, and savour.

THE REGION: Winemaking is an ancient art here with history dating back to the 12th century BC. Sitting on the southwestern coast of Italy, Campania has 350kms of coastline and a mountainous interior comprised of the Campanian volcanic arc, which includes Mount Vesuvius. The long growing season is hot and dry with abundant sunshine; breezes blowing from the Tyrrhenian Sea and temper the heat, promoting acidity in the grapes. The volcanic soils encourage high tannin.

Chocolate Raspberry Dessert Wine

This multiple gold-award winning wine is bursting with rich, intense flavours and aromas. The traditional dessert wine character of warm, rounded cherries and plums is supported by a racy zing of bright raspberry. The Region: ITALY. Montalcino, a small hilltop town in Tuscany, is the birthplace of Brunello. Red wines, usually blends, have been produced there since the 14th century; the Brunello style we know today emerged in the late 1800s when one winemaker began vinifying Sangiovese on its own, revolutionizing winemaking in the region. Now, Brunello style wines are considered the finest expression of the Sangiovese grape and celebrated for their unique combination of bold fruit flavours, high tannin, and high acidity. It is one of Italy’s – and the world’s – most revered red wines.

The Wine: With its legendary profile, BRUNO is Sangiovese at its best. The nose shows off aromas of black cherry and plum, teasing notes of leather and sandalwood. Murray Darling is named for two of Australia’s longest rivers, which run through the vast region and provide vital irrigation. The region is hot and dry, with long sunny days balanced by cool nights. The loamy and sandy soils are unique to the Murray River system and nourish strong vines. Together the heat, rivers and soils produce grapes which create soft and flavourful wines.

Pinot Noir and Shiraz may seem like an odd couple, but this uniquely Australian blend has a noble history and is currently making a major resurgence. Mixed berry, floral and soft spice aromas open to a vibrant palate of sour cherry and red fruit flavours with undertones of dark plum, blueberry, light licorice and spice. Silky tannins and bright acidity complete this juicy and energetic blend.

Available January 2022: Macabeo Sauvignon Blanc – Manchuela, Spain

Manchuela is framed by the Júcar and Cabriel rivers, whose sediments make up the limestone-based clay soils. Two large reservoirs to the north provide irrigation during the very dry growing season. Vineyards here are 600-1000m above sea level; the altitude has a cooling effect and combines with fresh Mediterranean winds to moderate the hot summer days. This helps slow ripening, resulting in white grapes that produce fresh, fruity wines with good acidity.

Macabeo and Sauvignon Blanc are perfect partners in this bright and balanced blend. Together they show aromas of citrus and tropical fruit, with soft white blossom. The palate is lush and layered with pronounced flavours of green apple, pear, grapefruit and tropical fruit, with light notes of honeysuckle and grass. Fresh and flavourful with lively acidity, elegant complexity, and medium persistence.

Languedoc, France is the true home of Marselan; it was developed here in 1961 and takes its name from Marseillan, a coastal village near where it was first bred and planted. Soils vary across the large region with limestone and clay the most common. The Mediterranean climate, with hot sunny days tempered by cool seabreezes at night, makes the Languedoc a perfect place for growing grapes.

A hybrid of Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache, this relatively young French varietal displays the best characteristics of both parents. Marselan is deeply coloured with a powerful nose of jammy red and black fruits and spice. The palate delivers rich ripe fruit flavours of blackberry, plum and black currant with spicy notes, balanced acidity, and well-rounded tannins. Supple, smooth, and seductive.

North and South come together in this fresh blend. The Trebbiano comes from Puglia in the south, the heel of Italy’s boot. The dry heat, balanced by cooling breezes from the surrounding seas, along with the region’s fertile soils create the perfect conditions for growing mature and fruity grapes. In the north, the long summers of picturesque Veneto bring Riesling to full ripeness and the cool nights help the varietal retain freshness and its natural high acidity.

The climate in Manchuela is ideal for reds; the inland region has a continental climate with high daytime temperatures and long hours of sunshine but is still close enough to the coast to experience cool nights thanks to Mediterranean winds. This temperature swing creates favourable conditions for red grapes to slowly ripen, perfectly developing tannin, colour, and varietal character. The resulting wines show excellent flavour, colour, and mouthfeel.

The Style: Montepulciano is the 2nd most planted grape in Italy (behind Sangiovese) and it makes a popular and classic Italian red wine.

The Region: Barossa Valley & Riverland District, Australia. Shiraz thrives in Australia’s warm climate and is the country’s most celebrated and most planted variety. Odyssey blends Shiraz from the Riverland and Barossa Valley regions. The Riverland’s long sunny days fully ripen grapes, producing deliciously fruity wines with generous dark berry and plum aromas and flavours. Barossa is home to some of the world’s oldest Shiraz vines and is known for highly concentrated fruit, packed with black fruit flavours and ripe tannin.

The Wine: Simply epic. Riverland Shiraz is pre-oaked with French oak for a subtle infusion of vanilla, maple, and sweet spice. Barossa Shiraz is blended in to amplify ripe black fruit, dark chocolate, and licorice flavours. A mix of American and French oak during fermentation further refines notes of spice and vanilla and lends silky tannin. Last but not least, Hungarian Acacia enhances texture and body. The Style: Dolcetto is grown in northern Italy, with only small plantings found outside of the country.
